The score stayed the same with chances going begging for both teams until 15mins from the end Fc St Helens res equalised which took the game to penalties. With 6 pens scored by each team it was the saints keeper Josh Liptrot who helped to win the game with a great penalty save and then Tom Wilkinson stepped up to fire home the winning penalty . It was interesting divisional cup day as we welcomed Whitworth Valley to Laithwaite Park, it wasn’t long before the scoring started when Whitworths defence couldn’t deal with a cross coming in and the saints went ahead through an own goal, a second was added when Tom Wilkinson hit a long range shot which hit the cross bar and rebounded to Cayne Hanley who smashed it past the keeper , number 3 came with a well taken free kick from Danny Mogford who bent the kick round the wall into the net. The second half saw 2 well taken opportunist goals from Lewis Roughley to seal the win and progress into the next round.

Quarter Final Win

It was Lancashire cup quarter final day at Laithwaite park as we entertained The Village club fc , the saints started brightly and went ahead in the first few minutes when Cayne Hanley put a cross in from the right and Jack Callahan was on the end of it to put a bullet header in to score. As the game progressed the saints should have extended their lead but the chances weren’t taken and just before half time a mistake by the keeper on the edge of the box let the forward in to equalise . The restart saw a more even game with the saints creating the better chances, however Village could have taken the lead only for a great tackle by mom Josh Burton to thwart the forward from scoring. With 20mins to go some changes were made with 3 substitutes being introduced ,this made a difference and gave the team a bit more pace , as time was getting close to the final whistle and the possibility of penalties it was young Lewis Roughley who broke down the right with his pace and put in a superb cross and Joe Fielding smashed in the winner. A good performance by everyone against a well organised Village fc and we now progress to the semi final of the Lancashire Cup again.

Again we traveled over to Manchester to play Pro united fc in the inter league cup out of the premier division of the Lancashire and Cheshire league. It was a youthful looking side of Pro united who kicked of the game and were playing some good football, the saints were withstanding the pressure until a mistake let in their forward to open the scoring, the saints then started to settle and after good work from midfielder Tom Wilkinson who put a fine cross in to find Joe Hull who powered in the equaliser, 15 minutes later Tom Wilkinson dribbled his way into the box and scored to put the saints 2-1 up before halftime. The second half saw the home team again put pressure on the saints and were awarded a free kick 20 yards out and scored from the ensuing kick . Pro united were pushing to get another but the saints defence were holding out and began to take control again, with mom Cayne Hanley causing problems throughout the game he finally got his just rewards scoring two goals to put the saints into a 4-2 lead , and that’s how the game finished in this tough away game . With some new faces on show today this was a good performance against a well drilled team.

In the fourth round of the Lancashire Cup we were at home to Atherton Town Res from the Manchester league, the first 15 minutes was an even game with half chances at both ends until after some good football that found Joe Hull in space to open the scoring.10 minutes later a penalty was awarded to the saints after Joe Hull had been brought down in the box and up stepped mom Craig Naylor to make it 2-0 . The saints were starting to take control of the game and a third goal came when Anthony Smith scored from close range. The turnaround saw the saints get number 4 when Ian Roby picked up the ball just inside there half and unleashed a shot into the top corner for probably the goal of the game, soon after Atherton pulled one back with a well taken free kick, with some changes made the saints scored another when Cayne Hanley broke free to fire passed a stranded keeper, again Atherton hit back with a screamer from outside the box, again the saints hit back themselves when Bailey Houghton on his debut slotted home . We now play The Village club fc from the Warrington league in the quarter final on the 15th February.

We traveled to old Mancunians fc in the first round of the inter league cup , the saints who are the holders of this cup we’re expecting a hard game and got one, the first half saw the saints have most of the possession but it was Mancunians who took the lead with a well taken stricke from the edge of the box, the turnaround saw the saints striving to get an equaliser and got it when mom Joe hull broke into the box and was brought down for a penalty and up stepped captain Dean Callaway to slot home. With both teams who were evenly matched looking for a winner a long pass from fullback Mark Ratcliffe finding that man Joe Hull who glided past thier defender to slot in at the far post. The home side then put pressure on the saints defence but the team held out for a great win.

It was Lancashire cup day again as we welcomed Carnforth Rangers res to Laithwaite Park, against a youthful looking team it took a while for the saints to adjust to the game but did create a couple of chances with Cayne Hanley and Jack Callahan going close however it was Carnforth who took the lead with a near post finish. The restart saw the saints looking for an equaliser but again found the chances going begging and went further behind to a well taken goal from the away side’s forward. Things started to change for the saints with the introduction of 2 subs of Cal Mahoney and Josh Peet, and pulled a goal back when Jack Callahan scored from close range from a Cayne Hanley cross, looking for a leveller and time running out it was Josh Peet who stole into the box to get the equaliser- penalties then ensued- the saints scored all their penalties through Cayne Hanley, Captain Dean Callaway, Alex Neil and Cal Mahoney with the saints keeper Josh Liptrot pulling off two great saves from the away team’s penalty takers. We now play Atherton Town reserves in the next round on the 25th January at Laithwaite Park ko 2.00pm.

It was Lancashire cup day as we traveled to Old Boltonians fc on a great day for football, on a really good pitch the saints created a few chances early on but found the home keeper in good form and hitting the woodwork a couple of times thwarted the saint’s attack. The home side were quick on the break and some loose defending saw them take the lead minutes later they extended the lead with another lapse in the saints defence let them in - 2-0 at halftime. The break saw the saints management get the Ferguson hairdryer out ( not quite as bad ) to sort out the problems and it made a difference as the saints were soon back on level terms with a screamer from Joe Hull and an excellent free kick from Kyle King, this was more like how the saints can play and went ahead with another well taken goal from Kyle King, a 4th came with Joe Hull breaking through to get his second to make it 4-2 to the saints, a couple of substitutions were made including new signing Elliot Ashurst and it wasn’t long before he got on the score sheet with a quick turn in the box to fire home for number 5, the home side did put pressure on again and made it 3-5 just before the finish. A game of 2 halves for the saints who were quite rusty in the first half having not played for a couple of weeks, we come back to the same venue next week in a league game .

It was Lancashire cup day down at Laithwaite Park as we welcomed Sir Tom Finley fc from the 1st division of the the mid Lancashire league, in the first 10mins we saw the away team take the lead after some misunderstanding in the saints defence but their lead only lasted a few minutes when mom Joe Hull pulled a goal back and minutes later Jack Callahan netted from close range. The saints took total control of the game from there on and with the Tom Finney fc playing a high line the saints constantly got behind them with their pace , 2 more goals from Joe Hull a great free kick from Alex Neil and goals from Tom Wilkinson, Craig Naylor and Ant Smith made it a 9-1 finish.

The team traveled a short distance to Shevington fc in what turned out to be a good test for the team , after a goalless 1st half it was Shevington who took the lead soon after the break, both teams were playing some good football with the saints just having the edge with possession and that paid of when Joe Hull got the equaliser. Still trying to break down the Shevington defence it was not until the last few minutes that the saints managed to take the lead with a screamer from Cal Mahoney. A good result for the lads against a well organised Shevington side.
