Lancs Cup Win

Posted:
In an away game we traveled to Carnforth Rangers fc from the North Lancashire Premier division, the saints took control from the start and scored in the 1st minute when a cross from the left found Jamie Harrison who volleyed into the net from 10 yards out. Always looking for goals Dean Callaway made a brilliant run from midfield to play in Kieran Maddon who smashed the ball past a stranded keeper, number 3 came when a corner came in from the right and Mike Smith headed home a bullet header. The second period saw much of the same with the saints in control and a 4th goal came when Craig Naylor broke into the box and fired in a left footer into the far corner, with MOM Joe Hull in fine form more chances came but the score remained 4-0 to the saints. A good performance against a young strong Carnforth side and many thanks for thier hospitality after the game .

Saints Lose Semi

Posted:
It was semi final day in the Wigan cup against a strong Ashton athletic side, the first half saw a tight game with Ashton taking the lead thra deflected free kick however the saints hit back minutes later when a Joe Fielding free kick sailed into the roof of the net. The restart saw Ashton push forward and after 10mins went ahead things went from bad to worse when our 2 fullbacks had to come off through injuries and 2 other players had to carry on with minor knocks, the saints did manage to create a couple of good chances but found the Ashton keeper in good form, a couple of mistakes let in thier forwards and the score line ended up 5-1 to Ashton Ath. Credit to all are players for getting to this stage and we now move on to the league fixture on Saturday v Newburgh Utd.

After the break the winner came when a corner came in and Lewis Marsden glanced a fine header into the far corner. With some brave defending by MOM Jonny Parker the team progressed to the semi final.

Wigan Cup Win

In a dramatic game in the Wigan Cup v Rainford utd it was a tight affair for the first 20 mins until Dave Quigley broke free on the right to open the scoring with a great finish past the keeper, the saints were then reduced to 10 men when Jamie Harrison was shown a red card. Rainford then equalized only for Joe Hull to fire the team back in front, again Rainford hit back from a scrambled corner to make it 2-2 at the break. The second half saw am even game until a free kick for Rainford was awarded and their forward found space in the box for them to take the lead, with time running out Ian Roby and Dean Callaway combined on the left and a cross came in where Jack Callaghan glanced the ball into the net to make it 3-3 at full time. The game went straight to penalties with the saints keeper Dave Naylor making 2 great saves and a miss from a Rainford player hitting the bar the saints won the shoot out 4-1 and progressed to the semi finals. The team again showed a never say die character to get this result.
