We traveled to old Mancunians fc in the first round of the inter league cup , the saints who are the holders of this cup we’re expecting a hard game and got one, the first half saw the saints have most of the possession but it was Mancunians who took the lead with a well taken stricke from the edge of the box, the turnaround saw the saints striving to get an equaliser and got it when mom Joe hull broke into the box and was brought down for a penalty and up stepped captain Dean Callaway to slot home. With both teams who were evenly matched looking for a winner a long pass from fullback Mark Ratcliffe finding that man Joe Hull who glided past thier defender to slot in at the far post. The home side then put pressure on the saints defence but the team held out for a great win. |

It was Lancashire cup day again as we welcomed Carnforth Rangers res to Laithwaite Park, against a youthful looking team it took a while for the saints to adjust to the game but did create a couple of chances with Cayne Hanley and Jack Callahan going close however it was Carnforth who took the lead with a near post finish. The restart saw the saints looking for an equaliser but again found the chances going begging and went further behind to a well taken goal from the away side’s forward. Things started to change for the saints with the introduction of 2 subs of Cal Mahoney and Josh Peet, and pulled a goal back when Jack Callahan scored from close range from a Cayne Hanley cross, looking for a leveller and time running out it was Josh Peet who stole into the box to get the equaliser- penalties then ensued- the saints scored all their penalties through Cayne Hanley, Captain Dean Callaway, Alex Neil and Cal Mahoney with the saints keeper Josh Liptrot pulling off two great saves from the away team’s penalty takers. We now play Atherton Town reserves in the next round on the 25th January at Laithwaite Park ko 2.00pm. |

It was Lancashire cup day as we traveled to Old Boltonians fc on a great day for football, on a really good pitch the saints created a few chances early on but found the home keeper in good form and hitting the woodwork a couple of times thwarted the saint’s attack. The home side were quick on the break and some loose defending saw them take the lead minutes later they extended the lead with another lapse in the saints defence let them in - 2-0 at halftime. The break saw the saints management get the Ferguson hairdryer out ( not quite as bad ) to sort out the problems and it made a difference as the saints were soon back on level terms with a screamer from Joe Hull and an excellent free kick from Kyle King, this was more like how the saints can play and went ahead with another well taken goal from Kyle King, a 4th came with Joe Hull breaking through to get his second to make it 4-2 to the saints, a couple of substitutions were made including new signing Elliot Ashurst and it wasn’t long before he got on the score sheet with a quick turn in the box to fire home for number 5, the home side did put pressure on again and made it 3-5 just before the finish. A game of 2 halves for the saints who were quite rusty in the first half having not played for a couple of weeks, we come back to the same venue next week in a league game . |

It was Lancashire cup day down at Laithwaite Park as we welcomed Sir Tom Finley fc from the 1st division of the the mid Lancashire league, in the first 10mins we saw the away team take the lead after some misunderstanding in the saints defence but their lead only lasted a few minutes when mom Joe Hull pulled a goal back and minutes later Jack Callahan netted from close range. The saints took total control of the game from there on and with the Tom Finney fc playing a high line the saints constantly got behind them with their pace , 2 more goals from Joe Hull a great free kick from Alex Neil and goals from Tom Wilkinson, Craig Naylor and Ant Smith made it a 9-1 finish. |

The team traveled a short distance to Shevington fc in what turned out to be a good test for the team , after a goalless 1st half it was Shevington who took the lead soon after the break, both teams were playing some good football with the saints just having the edge with possession and that paid of when Joe Hull got the equaliser. Still trying to break down the Shevington defence it was not until the last few minutes that the saints managed to take the lead with a screamer from Cal Mahoney. A good result for the lads against a well organised Shevington side. |
Friendly WinPosted: |
We traveled to Mill Hill St Peter’s fc in Blackburn in our 4th friendly of the new season, with some new singings on show the saints started at a cracking pace and were soon in front through a well taken goal from Ant Smith then a goal came for the retuning Cayne Hanley a third followed with a great strike from Tom Wilkinson and the 4th was set up by great work again from Cayne Hanley who laid it on for Alex Neil . With all players getting good minutes on the pitch the second half performance dropped slightly but overall a great performance by everyone.
