The second half saw more chances for the saints and it was the persistence of Joe Hull that created his first goal , number 4 came from MOM Lewis Roughley who twisted and turned in the box a fired into the roof of the net he then set up Joe Hull to score his second With a cool finish, number 6 came when Lewis Roughley cut in from the left and fired an unstoppable left foot shot past the keeper. In the semi final of the Lancashire Cup against Southport and Ainsdale Ams the first half saw a very tight and a bit scrappy game with the saints making the better chances. Just before half time it was the persistence of Joe Hull that brought the first goal and he scored from close range. The second half saw a hectic game with the saints having a purple patch and MOM Joe Hull getting his second, still going forward it was great work on the right by Cayne Hanley and setting up Lewis Roughley who smashed the ball home to make it 3-0 . The next 15 minutes was a complete turnaround with S &A scoring 3 scrappy goals to level the game, they could have taken the lead when a penalty was awarded to them with 10 minutes to go but a brilliant save from the saints keeper Josh Liptrot kept the scores level, with only minutes remaining a through ball found Cayne Hanley in space and raced on to round the keeper to score the winner. This was a great achievement for the club to reach the final for the second season running especially as some big changes have been made within the club and going into a new league. Well done to everyone within the club.

In our first ever semi final match in the inter league cup we welcomed Whitworth Valley to Laithwaite Park, in very windy conditions it was difficult to get control of the game but it was the saints who settled first and we’re creating the chances. The first goal came when a cross from Craig Naylor found Joe Hull who finished with an excellent header, still playing the better football number 2 came from a similar move and cross this time finding Cayne Hanley to head home. Another goal came with some excellent football being played and finding Joe Hull on hand to score his second. The turnaround saw number 4 when MOM Cayne Hanley latched onto a ball and turned thier centre half and rounded the keeper to slot home his second, not finished with the scoring a through ball from Jonny Parker found Craig Naylor in space to fire home number 5. This was a great performance from the team against a club who are a well established in the Lancashire Amateur League , we now play Moston brook fc from the Lancashire and Cheshire League in the final date and venue to be arranged.

Inter Division Cup Win

We traveled to Howe Bridge Mills who are in the 1st division of the Lancashire Amateur League and are currently standing third in the division, the first half was not the best for the saints with the wind behind them and on a 4g pitch the ball was always unpredictable going forward, it was the home side who took the lead from a corner after a bit of a scramble in the saints defence. Some stern words from the saints management at half time saw a much improved game from the saints and a screamer from Cal Mahoney put the saints level, a few minutes later a free kick was awarded to the saints and again Cal Mahoney made no mistake to score, still pushing forward another goal came from Lewis Roughley who latched onto a ball in thier area and smashed it passed the keeper, with MOM Craig Naylor controlling things in defence the 4th goal came when Tom Wilkinson cut in from the right and fired passed the keeper he then scored his second again coming in from the right and unleashing a left foot shot into the top corner. This was a game of 2 halves for the saints who were not at their best for parts of the game but now progress into the next round.

We traveled to play Salford Victoria fc from the Lancashire and Cheshire prem division in the quarter final of the inter league cup, the first 20mins both teams we’re creating chances and it was the home team who broke the deadlock to take the lead, looking to get back on level terms the saints were pushing forward and an effort by Alex Neil from outside the box took a deflection to pass a stranded keeper to make it 1-1 . A second goal for the home team came when a harsh penalty was awarded for hand ball that was given by the linesman - 2-1 to the home side, looking for another equaliser Joe Hull broke into the box and was brought down resulting in a penalty and up stepped Craig Naylor to calmly score- 2-2 at half time. The second half saw the saints creating some good chances but couldn’t find the net, with some changes to the team to freshen things up it was an excellent corner taken by Danny Mogford that swung in beating the keeper who parried into the net. An excellent performance from the team who showed the will to come back twice and win the game with Jonny Parker putting in a MOM performance in defence.

In the quarter final of the prestigious Lancashire Cup competition we traveled to Blackburn to play Rishton Vets fc , the game started with both sides striving to control the game and the saints slowly getting on top it was however the home team who struck first after a bit of loose defending by the saints . It wasn’t long before the saints hit back when MOM Cal Mahoney hit a great shot that deflected past a stranded keeper, beginning to get on top the saints took the lead when the ball came to Craig Naylor who hit a fantastic shot from outside the box to nestle in the bottom corner- half time 2-1 to the saints. The turnaround saw more possession for the team and more chances were coming for strikers Cayne Hanley and Joe Hull but couldn’t add to the score sheet.Every single player played a part in this great win against a good Rishton side - we now wait to see who we play in the semi final . It was the second round of the inter league cup against Bedians fc from the Lancashire and Cheshire league, the game started with the away side looking a good team and full of confidence and took the lead after 20 mins , the saints were struggling to make progress to create chances to get an equaliser and when they did found Bedians defence quite solid, unfortunately a bad mistake from the saints keeper let in their forward to make it 2-0 at half time. A couple of positional changes and 3 substitutions made bringing on Scott Priestly, Cayne Hanley and Danny Mogford it saw Lewis Roughley find space in the box to pull a goal back, the team were starting to find some form and saw Lewis score a second to level the game taking the game to penalties. With a MOM performance from Joe Fielding he got the second goal with a fine header, with a number of substitutions the saints started to push forward a third came with a Kyle King goal and a fourth when Nacho Barns broke forward at speed and found space to square the ball to Kyle king to get his second. The second 45 minutes saw the saints more dominant and creating the better chances but it was not until the last 20 minutes that the goals started to go in with Craig Naylor scoring another 2 the best being when he chested down a high ball and smashed it from 30yards to get his hat trick and mom, with Cayne Hanley making his first start after a long term injury he got himself a goal with a well taken goal past a stranded keeper. In the second round of the Lancashire cup we were drawn away to Mill Hill St Peter’s, on one of the best pitches we have played on this season the saints started off well enough and went ahead with a well taken goal from Joe Hull, the home side levelled with a bizarre goal when the referee deamed that after a free kick had been given to the saints the ball was touched forward by a saints defender and thier forward pinched the ball to score an easy goal. A second goal for Winstanley came with a precise goal from Craig Naylor. After the break a corner came in for the saints and Mike Smith was on hand to head the ball home , the home side pulled another goal back with a speculative shot that hit the post and into the net. Again Winstanley hit back with some good work from Joe Magrath who played in Lewis Roughly who finished at the near post. A bit of a varied performance today with some good signs again for future games and we progress into the next round where we play Withenshawe reserves on the 25th November at Laithwaite Park ko 2.00pm .

After the disappointment of losing in the Mike Taylor final against Leigh Foundry 2-1 we had the chance for revenge in the semi final of the Laithwaite shield against L F at thief place, it was quite a tight game with the saints making most of the chances and went ahead with a well taken penalty from Craig Naylor, the home side hit back just before the break to go to half time 1 a piece. With the return of Ian Roby in midfield the team were controlling the game and agin went in front thro another Craig Naylor penalty, the team showed good signs of togetherness to take us into the final which is being played this coming Saturday at Shevingtons ground ko 2-30pm .

In the Lancashire cup semi final verses Moston Brook fc played at Darwin Stadium it was the saints who took control from the ko and soon went ahead when Cayne Hanley controlled a thro ball and laid it of to Joe Hull who fired in from just out side the box, a second came when Alex Neil took a free kick from the left touch line and their defender couldn’t clear and the ball found its way into the net with Mike Smith Getting a touch. Moston were trying to get into the game but a long ball clearance found Craig Naylor who slotted the ball home from close range. Moston pressed forward again and were given a dubious penalty just before half time which they duly converted. The restart saw a tighter game with less chances and Moston trying to get on level terms but the saints defended with ferocity and it was again the saints who scored the next goal when a move down the left between Joe Hull and Craig Naylor saw the later put a cross in to find Jamie Harrison in space to slot the ball home. The second half saw an unfortunate own goal by the away side after good work from Joe hull and Craig Naylor created mayhem in their defence, number five came when a pin point cross came in from Scott Priestly to find the head of Cayne Hanley to nod home ,the 5th was created by tricky work from Dean Callaway and Jamie Harrison for Deano cross to Joe Hull who made no mistake. Trimpell did have a couple of chances but found the saints keeper Josh Liptrot in fine form to thwart their efforts, the 7th came after Joe hull flicked on a through ball for Craig Naylor to prod home. On another long trip out to Caton united fc who play in the north Lancashire league we got the best start we could ask for as after a corner came in and a scramble in their goal area it was Cayne Hanley who put the saints in front from close range, against a young home side it was the saints who were playing the better football and went further ahead when Joe Hull was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded, it was Craig Naylor who opted to take the spot kick and he fired it past a stranded keeper. The home side got back a goal after some sloppy defending let in their forward to tuck away the goal. After the break the game became a bit spicy but the saints should have extended their lead only for chances to be thwarted by some excellent saves from the home keeper. An excellent results for the team on a pitch that was very sticky to play on but into the next round we go .

What a trip out it was as we traveled to Ulverston to play Croftlands Park fc from the Furness premier division, the saints started well and could have been a couple of goals ahead after 10 minutes but some stout defending kept us out. However the first goal came for the saints when a good move down the right saw Alex Neil put in a great cross for Cayne Hanley to slot home at the far post, the home side pulled a goal back when some sloppy defending let in their forward to level things at half time. The restart saw the saints take full control of the game and got a second with a Jack Callahan header from a Josh Peet corner , number 3 came when Cayne Hanley cut in from the right after a threaded thro ball from Cal Mahoney and finished superbly past a stranded keeper, number 4 was a great header from Joe Hull after MOM Scott Priestly put in a pin point cross to find Joe at the far post, Croftlands kept going and pulled a goal back after a scramble in the saints area, still looking for goals number 5 came with a well created goal from the team and Joe Fielding was on hand to finish cooly past the keeper. It was Lancashire cup day as we welcomed Old Rivingtonians fc to our new home venue at Abraham Guest Academy, before the game we all stood for a minutes silence in respect for the passing of Queen Elizabeth ll . The game started with both teams creating chances and midway through the hall the away team were awarded a penalty of which the saints keeper Josh Liptrot duly saved. This stirred the saints a going forward and we’re themselves awarded a penalty with Dean Callaway stepping up to score easily from the spot. There were 3 more goals for the saints in the second half with a brace from in form Cayne Hanley and another from Mike Smith who seems in good goal scoring form ,Josh Peet got a deserved mom setting up a couple of goals .

In our last friendly befor we start the season on Saturday we traveled to Colcheter to play village fc from the Warrington league, the saints took control from the whistle and were soon ahead when a good move saw Tom Vose score his first goal for the club, the scoring continued with another from Tom two from Alex Niel , two from Joe Hull and a screamer from Jamie Harrison. All in all a good run out for the team with some great football on show.
